Air Conditioning Repairs

The use of air conditioners have become very common in the recent years specifically because of global warming. However, along with the usage the problems associated with air conditioners have also increased. So, as the problems increase the concern associated with its repairs are also on the rise. When an air conditioner has some problems it is always a good idea to get in touch with a trained HVAC professional. This is because they will be able to locate the exact problem and take action accordingly. But sometimes before contacting a mechanic you can even check out if the problem can be handled all by yourself. This way you might save some money.

When your air conditioner does not cool sufficiently the first thing that you need to do is check your air conditioner. You need to find out if your thermostat is functioning properly and it is set at an ambient temperature in your room. You can also check out the circuit breaker for any breaks in the circuit. All these is important because the more you are able to tell your mechanic about the cooling issue, the faster he will be able to diagnose the problem.

Once you have checked out all these basic aspects you will have to lock a service call to the company of which you own the product. Within a day or two the technician arrives at your place and diagnoses the problems. After the problem is diagnosed the technician makes a list of repairs that is required. Only if you are ready to undergo those repairs he will take it up.

However, there are certain things that you can do all by yourself before calling a technician. In fact, there are chances that your air conditioner starts functioning properly.

First of all, you need to shut off the power. Both the indoor and the outdoor power needs to be shut off before you take up any of the repair activities.

Make sure that all the registers in the house are wide open. Then you need to make sure that the furnace filter is clean. After this you might have to go outside and clean the condenser coils.

Even after opening the registers and cleaning the filter if the air conditioner does not work you might have to move the thermostat mode switch from “Cooling” to “Off” and move the fan switch from “Auto” to “On”. You should allow the blower to run for at least 30 minutes. Then you can turn on the AC once again. If it runs without a glitch for the next twelve hours you have actually solved the problem.

Last but not the least, the best option to stay away from repairs is to follow stringent maintenance regimen of your air conditioner. One of the most important things that you need to do is change the air filters at regular intervals to prevent any kind of clogging. Also cleaning the condenser coils sometimes is a recommended thing. You can even call a trained HVAC technician for time to time for the maintenance of your air conditioner.
